In order to give you a taste of the type of learning that will take place at Emunah V'Omanut, here is a sampling of some of our course offerings and general departments. This list is subject to change given student demand and teacher availability.
TORAH STUDIES
Tanach
Tanach study will incorporate a
thorough treatment of the text with
broader themes like personality analysis,
political theory and philosophy. You
will encounter a range of commentators
and learn their various methods and
approaches. Traditional verse by verse
study will be complemented by literary
and structural analysis. Extensive courses
(bekiut) will complete nevi’im rishonim
and selections from other seforim. Here
you will gain an integrated picture of the
entire period of the Tanach, stretching
from Yehoshua’s entry into Eretz Yisrael to
shivat tzion, the return from the first exile.
Midrash
Midrash will explore both the meaning
and method of midrash. What are the
textual roots of a midrashic comment?
How do we understand some of the
fantastic claims made by midrash? This
course will appeal to artists in that it will
explore chazal’s method of symbolic and
associative thinking.
Halacha
Halacha will cover critical areas like
Hilchot Shabbat and Women in Halacha.
While all classes will be based on sources,
some will emphasize the Halachic process
through primary sources while others
will maintain a more practical focus.
Machshava
Machshava is designed to promote
religious depth, introspection and
reflection. Based on machshava, chasidic
and mussar texts, you will be exposed
to a wide variety of classic and modern
thinkers. Some modern luminaries
include Rav Hutner, Rav Dessler, Rav
Soloveitchik and Rav Kook.
Limudei Eretz Yisrael
Limudei Eretz Yisrael will examine
primary sources through Torah,
Navi, and Chazal in order to deepen your
understanding of the significance of
Eretz Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael. Studies
will further explore hilchot Eretz Yisrael
and contemporary history.
